Electro- Stripping
/
Cleaning
This is used for:-
1. Removing old plate
2. Dissolving rust
3. Activating metal surfaces
4. Electric etching
These tanks are set up in
exactly the same way as a plating tank, except that they are wired up IN
REVERSE. So you end up - DE-PLATING.
Our previous policy was to
bolt the anodes/cathodes to the side of the tank, but now we prefer to
cut a strip along the long side of the anode and use this as the hanger.
This enables the anode to be placed deeper into the solution, with no
fear of contamination from the hanger.
ELECTRO-STRIPPING
.
The
introduction of an electric current through the part dramatically
increases the depletion of rust and old plate and assists in the
cleaning/ preparation process.
The
relevant solution (the pickles and solutions for this process are detailed in the
Complete Plating Manual) is introduced to a de-plating tank and the part
suspended on a wire from the tank bar. The tank plates (cathodes) are
wired to the negative side of your power unit and the tank bar to the
positive. By varying the
resistance, using bulbs or a rheostat, you can control the degree of
de-plating taking place. |
