RUSTY METAL NON HAZARDOUS RUST REMOVER
Rusty Metal is a compound specifically developed for removing rust/ corrosion from steel and iron. It is supplied as one litre of concentrate for you to mix with 9-10 litres of water. This large volume allows components to be immersed in RUSTY METAL solution for thorough cleaning. It is also useful when RUSTY METAL solution is used for de-rusting the inside of car and motorcycle tanks, storage tanks, and other metal cylinders that can not be accessed except through a pipe connection aperture. The outside of a tank can be treated by leaving the tank to float in the bath of RUSTY METAL solution.
RUSTY METAL solution will remove the heaviest corrosion leaving components and tanks bright and rust free. RUSTY METAL solution is safe and easy to use. It is highly effective without producing noxious fumes or using hazardous chemicals.
After RUSTY METAL solution has removed the rust the steel can be protected with any products of your choice. SD Seal-Ox de-watering/ inhibiting oil is fine for engine parts and tools. Prior to using RUSTY METAL solution thoroughly degrease the items and then wash with detergent such as Fairy Liquid or SD KLENE 416 and finally thoroughly rinse with tap water until the rinse water is soap free.
Put seven litres of water of warm water (50°C) into a bowl and slowly mix in one litre of Rusty Metal Solution. Then mix in three more litres of heated water.
Place rusty components in the solution and leave from between 30 minutes and 12 hours at 20° C, the higher the temperature of the solution the quicker it will remove the corrosion. In a commercial situation we would recommend holding the tank temperature between 32°C and 36°C and expect corrosion to be removed somewhere between 5 minutes and 3 hours. Badly rusted items can take up to 12 hours. Temperature doesn't effect the cleaning, just the speed of operation and it can be raised to 60°C for more speedy working.
Whilst Rusty Metal Solution is cleaning your components it is worthwhile lightly brushing the components to remove the loosened rust. Washing up brushes with their stiff nylon bristles are ideal for this.
Rinse cleaned items in ordinary tap water and dry. The surface of the metal is very active at this time and you should apply a protective coat immediately. Bright steel in the normal UK conditions will start to rust after fifteen minutes, just as it would from shot blasting. If you are using Rusty Metal Solution to de-rust the inside of a tank then by all means use the tank as the mixing vessel. Once it is free of rust rinse it thoroughly with tap water and dry.
Rusty Metal solution is safe and easy to use. It is highly effective but produces no noxious fumes and contains no hazardous chemicals. After use the Rusty Meal solution solution can be placed in a suitable plastic container and stored for future use. Filter out the loose rust through a coffee filter before storing.
Please note that our shipping prices are a higher than it would cost to send a normal parcel via the post, the reason for this is because any product that contains chemicals must be sent and packed as per the "hazardous goods" regulations, and be transported by a carrier that is licensed to be able to transport. we are unable to send by regular post as it is now a criminal offence to send undeclared hazardous goods, for postage rates please click on the tab above.
